The only thing depressing about Depression Modern is the fact that no one could possibly own all the gorgeous antiques on display. A black and white checked lino floor and lots of mirrors make the small space classy and inviting and the staff is boisterous and impeccably educated on the store's inventory. The owner of this shop takes meticulous personal care in the restoration of furniture from the 1940s and 1950s. Restoration work is outstanding. The wood finishes are gleaming and the integrity of the originals is given the utmost attention. The owner personally delivers many purchases. Depression Modern sells beautifully restored 1930s and some 1940s furniture at excellent prices. A number of celebrities, including Whoopi Goldberg, have waited dutifully on line on Saturday mornings for the noon opening with a new lot of furniture.
