Demarchelier Restaurant Review: This cozy French bistro is the real thing, right down to the lace curtains, the tightly spaced tables and the mirrors tilted so people facing the wall won't miss the action---not to mention the occasional attitude. Start with the onion soup or a salad dressed with a bracing French vinaigrette made with grainy Dijon mustard; then move on to steak frites, roasted...
A downscale, authentic French experience on the Upper East Side.
Seafood-focused French bistro offers museum strollers a bite on the Upper East Side.
if you're a tourist in town or seeing one of the nearby museums, and have lost your guidebook, you can come here; if you live in the neighborhood and don't want to travel far, you can come here. if you want good food, or to be made to feel special, do not come here.
Our meal was very good, highly recommend the quinoa/sweet potato burger and definitely go for the side of fries. My sister had the broiled sole which was fabulous!

I have been going to Demarchelier for 35 years - even when it was on Lexington in the 60s. The service used to be great. They have a different crew of waiters that are abrupt and unhelpful. I was really surprised.
We had always walked past this neighborhood restaurant, and we finally decided to give it a try. Our overall impression was that the food was fine but not great. We each had a prix fixe dinner with a salad and an entree and a glass of wine. We appreciated the inclusion of wine (rather than dessert) in the prix fixe, but the salad was mediocre and the entrees (fish, steak) were not memorable.

"Even the attitude feels authentic" at this "plucked-from-Paris" UES "boîte", a "dependable" choice for "basic" bistro fare including its "value" prix fixe; a "mature" crowd keeps the bar "swinging", and while one surveyor's "tired" is another's "timeless", most agree the package is "just right for the neighborhood."
A decent restaurant if its that time of the month when you're on a low budget but have a luncheon date to keep. Not only is the menu reasonably priced but also quite well put-together with French cuisines, seafood and even a few vegan dishes are available. Well-lit interiors, impeccably dressed staff and elegant furnishings adorning the space add to the ambiance. Prix-fixe menu is quite a...
