An "old-fashioned neighborhood watering hole", this Tarrytown "dive" is "cool", "unassuming" and beloved by "regulars" who pay cash for "super-cheap beer", shoot pool, feed the "eclectic" jukebox and catch games with fellow Longhorn fans; even with a "fairly small patio" it ain't "the prettiest" joint, but really, "what more do you need?"

Before Lake Austin Blvd was the portal to rich Austin, it lied on the outskirts of town, in the hilly wilds of Austin hippies who grew pot at home and smoked it at Barton Springs in broad daylight. Deep Eddy Cabaret is a remnant of that time -- they don't even take credit cards! -- but what you sacrifice in ATM costs, you make up for with an amazing, Velvet Underground-filled jukebox and a storied history. Cheers, Deep Eddy Cabaret.

I used to work close to this bar, so I would go occasionally after work. It's definitely a local spot and one of the few bars left in town that hasn't been commercialized or popularized. No one is too friendly, they just keep to themselves, so you can enjoy your beer and company in peace.

The Extras: After an evening of groovin' to the jukebox and enjoying adult beverages, slide on over to Magnolia Cafe, open 24 hours.
