This deli is one of the few places in San Francisco where you can get good Jewish food. It is not much different than a Jewish deli in New York with its Formica counters and solid, unfussy food. The corned beef sandwich and the matzo ball soup can cure what ails you, physically or spiritually. It is worth saving room for one of the pastries shown off so prominently in the window display. Deli located in the Tenderloin. I've been here twice several years apart and I have to say I haven't been impressed by it.
Fun retro Jewish deli in the heart of Union Square that's like stepping back into the 60's with counter service and all. Their pastries and desserts and awesome and the Napoleon is one of the best I've had!
This place was NEVER good. It sucked under the original owner 25 years ago and it has not improved.Remember:San Francisco DOESN'T HAVE DELIS!!!! Especially Jewish.A few in So. Cal. but that's it.
I first went to David's Deli when I was a boy of 10, in 1960. David, the owner was there. I learned that he was a survivor of Auschwitz concentration camp. The food was Wonderful, especially the Borsch Soup, Hot Pastrami(THIN and A LOT)Sandwich, and those fabulous Macaroon Cookies. My Parents took me there several times a years. When I left home I continued visiting and saying hi to David. My Wife and I just went to David's a couple of weeks ago. HOLY COW-what happened !!! In short is was horrible food, place was not clean, and it felt dead to dine there. The bill-OUCH, huge. As I was...
This is as authentic old-school diner as you can, especially in the city. The desserts sitting in the window drew me in, plus it is right next to the Warwick hotel (and Union Square). They had soups, sandwiches and salads on the menu. The waiter was not very good, but the potato borscht I had was tasty! Got some desserts to-go, also good!
