Review: Daddy Jack’s Wood Grill

As Deep Ellum transitions from entertainment zone to we’re-not-yet-sure-what, it’s instructive to take a look at Daddy Jack’s Wood Grill, a restaurant that has survived where others—R.I.P. Green Room—have not.The strategy seems obvious: good, almost hearty food, served in a friendly manner and at a friendly price. Yet few restaurants are able to follow through on such a simple plan.Originally...

Seafood lovers rejoice at this cozy and popular Deep Ellum hideaway.

The Scene
SMU students, musicians and folks who just like a good crustacean pack this place. Daddy Jack's is a dark, inviting little place; in one room, brown paper tops black tablecloths...

Awful lobster paella. Tough and tasteless. I got my lips ripped off with this one. I do know most places attempt to have some diversity in the menu however there were no options for chikdren and I ended up splitting a pasta dish with…

My ""cons' have pretty much summed it all up. We went there because we had two $50 ""DFW dining"" gift cards that this restaurant accepts. I forgot how much exactly our total bill was, but it was somewhere between $50 and $100. So we give the waiter both cards. He came back and told us that his manager said that they can only accept one card (for whatever reason), so we actually had to pay $20-30 out of our own pocket for seafood that would look bad even if you compare it to Red Lobster!!!

Cons

- bad food, bad service, dangerous location (at night)

Yelp

DJ is awesome. Chef Salvatore's crew is amazing. Great food and service, they're located in Deep Ellum, convenient to our office and parking is always easy. We also have them cater to our office???

Business description (4)

Daddy Jack's Wood Grill can be found at Elm St 2723. The following is offered: Night Clubs. The entry is present with us since Sep 8, 2010 and was last updated on Nov 14, 2013. In Dallas there are 115 other Night Clubs. An overview can be found here.

Daddy Jack's Wood Grill is located at 2723 Elm St, Dallas, TX. This location is in the Deep Ellum neighborhood. This business specializes in Restaurants.

Its strategy seems obvious: good, almost hearty food, served in a friendly manner and at a friendly price. Originally an offshoot of Daddy Jack's on Greenville Avenue, it has since spun off completely but retains the emphasis on seafood. Chef-owner Salvatore Gisellu, a native of Sardinia, worked at Arcodoro/Pomodoro and puts his fish knowledge to good use.

This casual grill is known for its reasonable seafood prices, while still offering some of the best cuisine in town. Reservations are always recommended, even during the week, or you will be waiting it out at the bar next door. The fresh food is cooked over pecan, hickory and mesquite woods. If you can resist the crab legs and lobster, try the Pecan-Breaded Rainbow Trout or Grilled Pork...
