From Picasso's "Guernica" in 1940 to Mapplethorpe's photos in 1990, the Contemporary Arts Center has consistantly challenged the artisitic community. Experiential installations using lights, sounds, and even high-speed winds are designed to stimulate--if not assault--the senses. The building itself is a work of art all its own. With the "urban carpet" and glass-enclosed lobby, boundaries are... more

Founded in 1939 as the Modern Art Society, the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) was one of the first institutions in the U.S. dedicated to contemporary art. This art museum is in downtown Cincinnati, which can pose a problem when looking for parking. If you want to see well-known artists you go to the Cincinnati Art Museum. When you want to see obscure and very gifted artists work, you go to the Contemporary Arts Center. They have fabulous rotation art exhibits. The building is beautiful. Staff is very nice and helpful.

The majority of their holdings are modern art (hence the contemporary) and are well displayed to tell a story or assist in providing a background of the artists' motives. The building itself is very modern, with very cool architectural features. Admission is very reasonable. On the top floor... more

Don't be put off by the no photos/all bags in lockers rules at the... more
