What the community has to say about Cobalt

Information about this business (1)

Cobalt is a three story LGBT nightclub that serves everyone regardless of orientation. The lounge, restaurant and dance floor are on separate floors, and the music is as eclectic as the crowd. However, a bar is available on each floor, ensuring that you won't need to make a long trip to get your drinks. Editorial reviews from the web (3)

It's "Pretty Boy Central" (read: "twink heaven") at this longtime Dupont Circle gay club/bar, where a "fabulous crowd" prowls the cavernous old-house setting featuring a mid-level lounge with "friendly bartenders" (30 Degrees) and a top-floor space to "dance the night away" (Cobalt); there's almost "always something going on", including karaoke, retro and "best package" nights – all of which...

Cobalt has collected a lot of accolades over its 10-plus years: The Washington Post names it one of D.C.'s best gay nightspots, saying it's a "no-frills dance club with great house and retro DJs, cabaret acts, and shirtless bartenders." The local gay-oriented newspaper, Washington Blade, recommends Cobalt as a "Best Place to Meet Guys." The club lies on the third level of a handsome Dupont...

That gay bar that just won't go away. Addams family mansion hides behind Taj Mahal burka; masked windows rattle with techno. Twice-tanned, shirtless manboys pour for the keg party, flex pecks for tips, sneer at anything under a five—"cuz ‘roids cost money, honey." Blue-lit dance floor announces blue light special on southern college dropouts. Daddy's shopping. Bona fide straights infiltrate...

I have to say this was a first one for me...I've ordered four drinks from a bartender, he makes my drinks and then leaves them in front of me at the bar and tells me the price. I leave cash money...

You are bound to be disappointed if you go there for the food. If you are looking for drinks or hook-ups perhaps you will like the place, otherwise, AVOID.

I cant say enough about the staff and atmosphere at Cobalt. It is a GREAT place to go relax have a drink and watch an entertaining show. Kristina Kelly makes the shows with her humor and interactions with the crowd.

15 years I have celebrated a welcoming place that is no more

Tonight for the first time in 15 years I was thrown out of Cobalt. I sat through all of the good times. There was a security guard whom saw me walk out of the bar then proceeded to harass me as I walked back in then insisted not to call Mark the manager whom I have known for more than 15 years. Its appalling that gays in DC tolerated this kind of harassment from the security guards. they coincidentally lost my rabbit lined hat which my friend returned to retrieve.

I would not recommend it until they learn to deal with their staff.

Yelp

If you happen to like your fun times to be really hot, sweaty, and gay, come on down to cobalt. Cobalt, for my fellow yelpers not in the know, is the gay bar equivalent of Lima. Fat, hairy, and ugly…

As one of D.C.'s quintessential gay venues, Cobalt has been consistently popular for decades for its dance floor upstairs and mellow lounge on the primary floor. The club draws in the masses on weekend nights with nationally recognized DJs, but even on a Tuesday evening crowds come in for the regular happy hour specials. During the day, the building sits unassumingly on the corner of R and 17th...
