Chow Noodle House

Not only the house of Noodles

Review Rating
YellowBot Location
It used to be Celadon but still owned by the same relatives. Chow is better now after they changed the menus. Now everyone get to have different kinds of food, starting from Pho noodle, famous Thai food like, Kaprao, Tom yum goong, etc., even Japanese food like Yakisoba. The service is always nice and friendly. It can be a romantic place at evening. They have a broad wine list which is good for party. I always like their Padthai and beef salad. Thumbs up for that!

Moderate sized and priced Thai restaurant with an extensive menu.

This cheerful, quirky Thai restaurant is located in the heart of Hillcrest. The typhoon theme, with blown-away objects glued to the walls, may not please everyone as a restaurant interior, but it is different. Mirrored walls and the street-side windows enhance the perceived size of what is a small restaurant space. Noodle dishes are available with your choice of meat (or vegetarian textured tofu).

Talk to young proprietor Alex Thao if you want to try some of the specialties not listed on the menu, like the spicy, stir-fried cashew appetizer or the tart, invigorating stir-fry of shredded dried beef and citrus sauce. These dishes are superb, but the everyday menu is good enough to keep the small, well-furnished dining room jumping, even on Monday nights. Start with "Celadon squares," small... more

Hillcrest is notoriously bad for parking, so try to snag a spot in the small lot behind the restaurant.

This sister restaurant to downtown’s dreamlike Rama has long been a Hillcrest favorite. Grab a bite of authentic Thai cuisine by chef SoNsi, then hit the strip for a Landmark film or to get your groove on at one of the many nearby nightclubs. The menu is traditional---no fusion fare here. For starters, go for the grilled shrimp skewers with tangy tamarind dipping sauce and the light, airy... more

Where the Gaslamp has more trattorias than a tourist can count, Hillcrest has at least three Thai eateries per couple of blocks. Located on Hillcrest's busiest stretch, Celadon has a window on the action but is a quiet retreat from it.

Anyone who remembers this Thai restaurant from its old location on Fifth Avenue (where Hash House a Go Go currently resides) knows its reopening is a good... more

This popular local noodle house has changed it's menu. apparently no one ever heard the mantra if it's not broke don't fix it. Changing our favorite dishes (conconut thai soup with vermechelli and the chicken skewers) so that now they are unrecognizable and taste bland. When asked about the new menu and how people reacted the waitress causually commented how old customers miss their favorite... more

The food here is incredible, the waitstaff very knowledgable, and the prices below what it could be. The decor is something you have to see to believe. It's entirely white, from the walls, floors, grand piano, and the dj's clothes. It looks like it was created by Liberace and my Italian grandmother, who still loves gold-marbled mirrors. It leaves anyone feeling inadequate and has nothing to do... more
