In Venice, Heip Le was convinced the fragrant noodle soups and spice-infused grilled dishes she grew up eating would appeal to the people working late in artist lofts and film production houses. So last October she turned a former falafel stand into the charming China Beach Bistro. She enlisted her mother, a veteran of Vietnamese restaurants in Little Saigon in Albany, Calif. (near Oakland), to... more

Along the dragon's back, south of the old imperial city of Hue, lies the serene tranquility of China Beach. Great Vietnamese food

This small restaurant (more of a cafe than a bistro) has great inexpensive Vietnamese food. (I have no idea why earlier reviews call it Thai?) It's not fancy, the location is on a loud, busy corner but the food is incredibly fresh, there are many vegetarian options, the owner is very friendly, and their coffee is exceptional. It's a welcome break from the fast food of the boardwalk.
