1985 Called and Wants its Chinese Food Back

Review Rating
In many ways, Chin Chin is still stuck in the 1980's, when it opened. The food is pretty good even though it is not a recognizable Chinese cuisine. The staff turns over a lot and sometimes is a little indifferent or slow. Over the last 10 years, it has tried to remake itself twice but has returned to something like it used to be in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Stick with the dim sum and the Chinese chicken salad--the old dependable iconic items on the menu.

Good Food, Bad Service

Review Rating
I had been to Chin Chin many times and the food is generally good.

However, on more than one occasion, their service has been poor.

One time, we called to reserve space for a big group. Despite making the arrangements ahead of time, they had us wait for 40 minutes before we walked out since we had already wasted almost our entire lunch. The host was pretty rude about our impatience. That was the primary reason we walked out.

A waiter(?) chased us down trying to bribe us back in with free drinks but by that time our lunch was over anyway. :-(

Sometimes it's okay. Last time I ate there the food made me ill.

I've been coming here for years & I almost always order the chinese chicken salad -- it's their signature dish (they'll let you know) and it's not surprising -- tons of chopped iceberg piled high w/chicken, almond slivers, crispy wontons & a fabulous dressing that looks/almost tastes like salsa. The sidewalk cafe is great for people-watching and the interior was recently updated, so it's much more ... more

Decent Sunset Plaza chinese food

Chin Chin serves up the standard fare for a chinese restaurant. The main entrees are common. Appetizers are where its at for this place. I especially like the pan-friend pork pot-stickers. Outdoor seating is good but choose a spot away from the heaters if you can. The wait staff is friendly and service is reasonably fast. I recommend the Mongolian Beef for the main course.

Always tasty!

Chin Chin is a great chain since the food is consistantly good enough that you actually forget its a chain. The items are fresh and tasty with the right balance of flavor. The sampling mention that allows you to try 3 items as small plates is brillant, especially when you can't decide what to order since it's all delicious.
