In Short The Chimes is a popular choice for students and alumni. The spacious dining room is lined with hardwood floors and guests can sit at either one of the plush booths or at a larger glossed oak table. The menu offers a wide variety of Louisiana seafood from stuffed shrimp to oysters. For those shy of shellfish, salads and deli sandwiches are also served. After dinner time, beer... more

The Chimes East opened about a year ago on Coursey Blvd. and it's much improved over the original. I've taken out-of-town guests there and we all loved it. Seafood is excellent. Great red beans and rice. One of the few places left where you can get fresh-shucked oysters on the half shell and they're only 30 cents apiece from 4 to 7 p.m.

I've been a couple of times before for drinks, but i recently went for lunch. The service was slow and they were rude. My food was undercooked and had to be sent back. My friends also each had to send something back. If you go, go for drinks only, they're good and the bartenders are friendly. Otherwise, pass on The Chimes!

A campus classic for food and night life

Chimes is famous for their food. It's a little overpriced but to die for - especially anything with seafood. Their drink selection is great, especially their beer choices (they serve Blue Moon cold and with an orange slice, which is the best). Come prepared to spend and wait - but it's well worth both!

Pros

+ Rich and tasty food, good date or hangout place

Cons

- A little expensive
