Business Description from the Web

digitalcity

As the owners tout, this is ''where the city that works eats.'' And, people certainly have good reason to eat here: This is one of the best steak houses in the country. In fact, some diners work up quite an appetite before hand -- one big enough to devour the 64-ounce porterhouse. Don't despair if your work ethic doesn't necessitate eating 64 ounces of anything, though. You'll find a more... more

This charming three-flat offers multiple levels of dining in a bustling section of River North. Nostalgic framed prints line the walls of the stairway leading to the upper floors. The main floor features live piano jazz and houses the bar and waiting area, which get quite packed at night. Raters love the menu: starters include freshly shucked bluepoint oysters and cherrystone clams, jumbo... more

Nothing says "Chicago" like a slab of meat at this nostalgic, clubby local favorite.

The old-boy network is alive and well at Chicago Chop House, a conservative steak joint with a country-club feel and a corporate, mostly male, clientele. Brass railings, hunter-green walls and wood accents make up the decor; framed black-and-white photographs of Chicago gangsters, mayors and meat packers past lend an old-time Chicago feel. No surprises, just high-quality steakhouse standards... more

Ranked one of the top ten steakhouses in the United States in numerous surveys, is located in a restored Victorian browstone. Semi-formal dress is encouraged, but not required...but do expect an old-time, clubby feel. You'll find more than 1,400 photos of 1830-1930 Chicago on the walls. Make a selection from the award-winning wine list then eat away. It's as pricy as your appetite is large: a... more

Split Plate Charge Turnoff

Would not recommend based on split plate charge policy. It's too bad a $10 split plate charge policy ruined a $350 meal experience as food was really good. When brought this to attention of waitress and management was simply told "that's the owners policy" and it was obvious this feedback has been given in the past. A note to the owners--Bill Farrahi, Susan Gayford & John Pontarelli-- that when... more

The ambiance and food here were excellent. We came in from out of town for the weekend and wanted to find a restaurant with a Chicago flavor. We were very happy with our choice of the Chicago Chop House. The steak was wonderful and perfectly cooked to our liking. The salads and sides were excellent. The only negative was that our waitress pushed the side dishes without warning us of their... more

Went there last night with some friends from out of town, The waitress was very rude and overbearing. There were ten of us and the following occured:
3 steaks ordered with crab meat and bernaise sauce arrive with cold crab and sauce. When we asked for them to be heated we were tiold that the sauce is supposed to be cold. When we still asked for them to be heated we were acutally told by our... more
