History:The Central Park Zoo is both the oldest NYC zoo and one of the newest. It had an uncertain beginning about 1861/1862 when the first animal donations, mostly unwanted pets, were made to Central Park employees. Early animals of the menagerie, as it was called, consisted of a black bear, a pair of cows, deer, monkeys, raccoons, foxes, opossums, ducks, swans, pelicans, eagles and parrots....
Went today to this zoo and was pleasantly surprised, there was plenty to see and not a huge area that left us tired. It is a great half day trip that allowed us to have a late lunch around 2pm. Although we missed the penguin feeding, we did see the sea lion feeding/ enrichment which was terrific

Loved this one hour detour. The zoo is compact, but well designed the grizzlies, snow leopard and penguins were great, but tropical walk excellent. We all loved it, the home of the Madagascar animals. Just great.
I love my little Central Park Zoo. It's definitely not the biggest or most grand, but it's a wonderful thing to have in the city. The location is easily accessible and there are plenty of animals for you to view!
I could sit and watch the Penguins all day long. I love them so much. I like the set up...
