This Dutch Romanesque structure with Byzantine touches was completed in 1916 (construction began in 1912). In the cemetery behind the church are aboveground tombs that date back to 1820; interred here are town founder Jean Mouton, Civil War hero General Alfred Mouton, General Alfred Gardiner, and Cidalese Arceneaux. Even if you aren't Catholic this is a must see if you're in the area it is absolutely beautiful I am a devoted Christian and went to it when mass was over and stay here for hours just admiring every details o the cathedral

There's not much to see in downtown Lafayette other than the bars, but you should take some time to see the Cathedral. Very beautiful...
