Saved my Cat's Life

Several years ago, my young cat, Elf, became extremely ill and unresponsive. She stopped eating and was vomiting. Soon, she stopped moving and made no noise. As time went by, she became more and more difficult to wake up. It became evident that she was dying. Elf is a very sweet cat and very loving and I had come to love her very much in the short time she had been living with me. I frantically took her to the vet hospital in Lakewood. They quickly diagnosed an obstruction in her bowel. They recommended immediate surgery and also offered to put her to sleep and save me the trouble. The price tag for surgery was a jaw dropping $4,000! I was very distraught and stunned.

I contacted the Capital Hill Animal Care Center where I had taken Elf for routine care. I asked them for their advice and help. When I mentioned the price tag, the clinic was as stunned as me. They told me to bring little Elf straight over and that they would perform surgery that afternoon. Price tag $600-$900. The clinic cleared the schedule to help my little cat. I drove over immediately and Dr. Barnes’ clinic saved Elf’s life. After pet insurance, my entire bill came to $300! A gigantic difference from $4,000!

It turned out that Elf had chewed a button off a pair of my pants and swallowed it. The button became lodged sideways in her small intestine. Surgery was the only solution. Dr. Barnes and her clinic saved my much loved cat by stepping up when the chips were down and time was running out.

Now years later, little Elf is fuzzy, healthy, loving, and my best friend. I saved the button she had swallowed and mounted it in a picture with Elf – we call it her “belly button”. It is with profound and deepest gratitude that I say to Dr. Barnes and the Cap Hill Animal Care Center – Thank you.

We took our dog in because he was having ""panic attacks"" or something in the middle of the night. The vet didn't know what it could be so he suggested several things. An x-ray, in case my dog had a bladder issue ($185 + 65 to sedate), a blood test ($85, just to make sure it wasn't something else), Prozac (!!! really??) and antibiotic shots and pain killer to take home. The vet was also rough on my dog. The first thing he did was grab him by the scruff, making my dog growl. The vet had to muzzle my dog (poor thing) while he poked around at his bladder. My dog has been to other vets a few...
