The Extras

The Film Center was rebuilt on the site of the old Rafael Theater, which showed movies until the 1989 earthquake. The Rafael itself was built to replace the Orpheus Theater, built in 1918 and partially destroyed by fire in 1937.

Fun Fact

It hosts many events, including the screenings for the San Francisco International Film Festival, the Mill Valley Film Festival and a series of new prints of classics like "Dr. Strangelove," Lawrence of Arabia" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."
