What the community has to say about Buckingham Fountain

Information about this business (4)

Graceful sea horses spray jets of water into the lagoon that surrounds what is perhaps Chicago's most beloved public piece of art. Philanthropist Kate Buckingham commissioned the fountain in 1927 in honor of her brother Clarence. Its design parallels one of the fountains at Versailles Palace in France. You may, however, recognize it from the intro to Married with Children. Recently renovated,...

A beloved Chicago landmark and a favored postcard subject for nearly 80 years, Buckingham Fountain continues to draw visitors daily for its renowned displays. Inspired by the gardens at Versailles and constructed of Georgia pink marble and patina-coated bronze, the fountain holds 1.5 million gallons and uses 134 individual jets to move all that water. Still, the only Buckingham Fountain math...

I am owned and operated by the Chicago Park District. I am one of the largest in the world and am located at Columbus Drive (301 East) and Congress Parkway (500 South) in Grant Park. I'm up and running from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily, typically from April to mid-October, depending on weather. Times are subject to change when large events take place in or around Grant Park.

Having been to Chicago several times this is the first time visited when the fountain was not running as it was still too cold to run the water. However it is a landmark of Chicago with a beautiful view of the lake on one side...

The fountain is a bit of a walk from downtown, but it lights up at night and provides quite a show. Pretty neat to see at night!

Fountain was turned on. Awesome colors and what a beautiful view of the city with the fountain on and and all of its unique colors at night. Free items were given away before the party started 'cool sunglasses'.

Going by in October was not quite like the picture. Being Chicago, the fountain was already shut off. I imagined water in it, and it looked beautiful. :o)

It wasn't on in February but I got there close to sunset with perfect lighting and it's a sight to behold. It was enclosed by fencing and surrounded by live geese but I enjoyed the photo op. I would love to go back when it's...

Business description (4)

Buckingham Fountain is located in Grant Park. It is one of the largest fountains in the world and puts on a spectacular water show for 20 minutes every hour during the day time if the weather permits. The main jet sprays water over 150 ft (46 m) in the air. The fountain was donated to the city of Chicago in 1927 by Kate Buckingham in honor of her brother Clarence.

Since 1927, the Buckingham Fountain in Chicago, Illinois, has been a spectacle to see in Chicagoâ??s Grant Park. Ringed with four Art Deco seahorses that represent bordering states, the fountain itself symbolizes Lake Michigan. It sprays water 150 feet high and dazzles at night with 850 lights, bringing a warm glow to Grant Park.
