Bradbury building is the most impressive Victorian building remaining in L.A. Determined to build a lasting monument as his final real estate development, millionaire Lewis Bradbury rejected conventional designs and urged draftsman George Wyman to give the building a more futuristic twist. Its a testament to the futuristic vision of architect George Wyman that this 1893 building was chosen as a set for Blade Runner, a sci-fi film made in 1982 but set in 2019. And the Jack Nicholson films Chinatown and Wolf also set scenes here. The bones still hold up. The outside of the building may not be as ornate as others in LAs historic core, but inside, the multi-story open lobby capped by... more

Wyman's futuristic confection served as a set in the 1982 cult classic "Blade Runner." In addition, the sketches that caught Bradbury's eye were interpretations of 20th-century buildings described in Edward Bellamy's best-selling novel, "Looking Backward" (1887).

Having seen the Bradbury Building in the film Blade Runner, I have been to LA (from England!) twice and on both occasions have visited it, You can go in, but only on the street level floor, but an atrium interior allows you to see all the wonderful wrought iron stairways, balconies and elevator shafts

It really is a stunning building and a must see location for me!

This building harkens back to LA's noir era and is even immortalized in a novel of that period and films about it. While you can't tour through, you are allowed to check out the historic architecture from the ground floor. The striking design elements include the grille work and translucent ceiling.

Breath taking architecture and Detail. this is the place to go and photograph if you love retro buildings. Beautifully kept and absolutely stunning to look at. Spend the day touring LA. Just behind and to the right of the building is a tribute to Grandma Mason an African-American woman pioneer. Grand Central Market is close by, so stop by and shop for fresh fruit and teas or stay for lunch.
