Opposite the Fillmore Theater on Geary Boulevard, blues legend John Lee Hooker created this classy live blues/boogie venue. All employees are blues devotees and many shows turn into full-house jam sessions. While the late Mr. Hooker himself no longer graces the stage with his hollow-body guitar and gravelly voice, the blues spirit he created lives on here. 4p-7p Tuesday through Sunday is the... more

Opened by the late John Lee Hooker, with surprise appearance by the Stones, so instant cred. Fast forward years later and it’s still the funkiest juke joint in the city. Bizzaro Superman to Biscuit and Blues: No tourists, cramped, dark, sketch hood, tiny stage, SRO scene. If you like your martini dirty it’s your kinda club. Few headliners, but national acts like Pimps of Joyclub and Big Sam’s... more

The late John Lee Hooker and his partner Alex Andreas bought this Western Addition club several years back and used Hooker's star power to pull in some of the best blues bands in the country (even the Stones showed up for an unannounced jam session). Though it changed focus and is now a roots music oriented club, it's still a fun, dark, small, cramped, and steamy joint where you can hear good... more

I came here a few weekends ago and had a great time. There was a good, mixed crowd, hip music, and a great bar. The service was fast too. I fell in love with one of the bartenders. He made my friends and I Hello Kitty shots throughout the night which were delish! They are made with vodka and Ty Ku liqueur. Yum!

Pros

+ Parking is easy

Cons

- Cover charge of boys :(

Good energy.

My brothers and I went to the Boom Boom Room last week. It's a comfortable place with good energy and an interesting atmosphere. The price isn't expensive considering the acts that perform there are tried and true or just the very best of today. Intimate and soulful. Bring lots of friends with you, you're guaranteed to have a ball.

This place has a really cool vibe. Its a very good blues bar. Its a little dark inside but thats one of the things that make it nice. Its not that big so get there early if the show is going to sell out!
