A store devoted to children's books, Books of Wonder is a great place to browse for new ideas, check out the latest picture books, and find birthday presents. The Cupcake Cafe provides a relaxing area where families can snack, purchase some sugary sustenance, and gather strength for shopping.

The best known children's bookstore in New York City, Books of Wonder was one of the models for Meg Ryan's store in the film You've Got Mail . The staff knows everything about children's books, authors and characters. This is an important store to children's publishers, so most weeks an event is planned with a major author. Books of Wonder also offer free events to the public. It is a... more

Since 1980, Books of Wonder—an independent, singular paradise for young readers and those who love them—has been New York's go-to source for first-rate children's books, limited editions, and art from children's literature. While the shop offers rare collectors' editions (an original 1900 printing of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz goes for $9,500) and faithful reproductions of Baum's Oz classics,... more

Cat Stevens plays softly overhead as moms and dads browse through the selection. The Goods Everything you ever read as a child, from the "Goodnight Moon" years all the way up to... more

You don't have to be a kid to fall in love with this charming bookstore, which served as the model for Meg Ryan's shop in You've Got Mail. (Meg even worked here for a spell to train for the role.) Kids will love BOW's story readings; call or check the website for the latest schedule.

What a lovely and intimate book store! I've shopped there multiple times for birthday gifts for my nieces and nephews and each time the sales associates are able to guide me to the best books based upon the child's reading level and preferences. The sales people are very friendly and knowledgeable- they have read many of the children's/young adult books and provide great insight into what... more

I went in there the other day with my kids and the store has not gotten any new stock in at least a year...of course there is the new book here and there, but the shelves do not change much.

I use to love the store before they moved from next door a few years ago....the owner has too big of an ego and not enough vision.

I find that Barnes and Noble has better, more and current stock, plus you... more

It's like a deja vu of your childhood when walking through this store. The entire decor is amazing: carpeted and as if you're walking through your own little storybook. All of the childhood classics can be found here: Curious George, The Velveteen Rabbit, and a lot of not-so-famous ones as well. The store contains old (including antiques for children's book collectors) and new titles. It's a... more
