This now-classic seafood palace sails on victoriously with its ocean-traveling menu.
One of Zagat’s Most Popular Restaurants in New York, Blue Water Grill delivers quality seafood and sushi in the dining room, an outdoor café in Union Square and a jazz room with live music daily.
Whether you eat at the year-round sidewalk cafe (complete with heaters in the winter), the spacious and stylish main dining room or the smoky downstairs jazz room, the seafood is always lovingly prepared and served by an attentive, well-trained staff. The raw bar at the Blue Water Grill serves oysters from all over, especially the Northeast. The massive seafood platter is a great bargain. Fish...
great place for sushi and wine. the servers were helpful in picking out what to order. outside seating is great for people watching
Blue Water Grill is located in a former bank building in Union Square. The kitchen crafts an almost exclusive seafood menu. Lobster claws its way into bisque. Or order it live and then bid it 'adieu' for a grilled, broiled or steamed send off. The mollusk is even lobbed between brioche slices at lunch. Offerings at the raw bar beckon, too. Before or after you get to all of this, be it at the...
This "time-tested" Union Square "oasis" is still "holding strong" after a revamp, with a market menu of "first-rate seafood" served by "engaging" staffers in an "impressive" former bank with "marble all around" and a "wonderful" side terrace; it runs "a bit expensive", but the "energetic" regulars say it "never fails" "for business or pleasure."
Stopped in for an early lunch. The inside of the restaurant is very nice looking. We were seated upstairs in a large booth. Service was great. Seafood was pricey but very fresh. We enjoyed the lobster and shrimp roll with fresh cut fries and a sushi roll which was small but good. Overall a good lunch.
This is on my list whenever I visit NY. The service is spot on, the food is delicious and you have to order the banana ice cream tower - hazelnut shell, toasted marshmallow, ice cream, sliced banana's with chocolate and caramel drizzle! Generally a reservation is required, you see all types of dress code, but nothing less than nice jeans.
Blue Water Grill, a Zagat favorite year over year, is a sustainable seafood dining destination in the heart of Union Square. Loyal guests and visitors alike are drawn to the former Metropolitan Bank space with chandeliers that illuminate the bi-level dining room, and a café perfect for people-watching. The menu highlights the freshest sustainable seafood daily, with innovative craft cocktails....

The wine list is long and pricey, and servers may have trouble recommending one of the few bottles in the $40s. That said, a bump up to a $58 bottle of Dobbes Grand Assemblage Cuvee yields a stellar, light bodied red that pairs well with both fish and meats.
Despite an otherwise well-run front of house, half hour waits can accompany reservations.
