Blues City Cafe, in the heart of Memphis's nightlife scene, offers the right ingredients for a perfect evening – terrific food and great blues (played right next door at the Band Box). While some folks may dispute the place's claim to the title of "Best Meal on Beale," Blues City does in fact serve a wide range of tasty, down-home delicacies, like barbecued ribs, chicken, steaks and fried... more

The atmosphere at this diner-style café is so authentic that the place was used virtually unchanged in "The Firm", the Tom Cruise movie about a Memphis law firm. Bill Clinton is also fond of the joint. The décor is intentionally weathered, with corrugated iron and glass blocks. Diner-style seating offers a great view of the crowds on Beale. The best bet on the menu is that Memphis staple:... more

Good eats, live blues, and plenty of Southern atmosphere and charm.

The Scene: At the corner of Second and Beale, facing B.B. King's Blues Club, sits the faux Delta shack that was formerly a Doe's Eat Place. The late, great blues guitarist Albert King helped open the club in the early 1990s, but today it is the Blues City Cafe. Shrimp, steaks, and spicy tamales are on the menu, along with icy cold Coca-Cola and beer. Thick block glass windows,... more

If you're going to eat on Beale Street, Blues City is a good place to sample local fare such as tender barbecue ribs, hot tamales and Southern catfish. The specialty, though, is oven-broiled steaks, served au jus with plenty of sides. There's plenty to keep you busy after you eat, with live music most nights that goes late in the Band Box area and George Paul's Last Call, a lively little bar in... more

This club across the street from B. B. King's takes up two old storefronts, with live blues wailing in one room (called the Band Box) and a restaurant serving steaks, tamales and barbecue in the other. Local rock band FreeWorld plays here regularly.

Excellent fall off the bone ribs in an interesting setting. My wife likes her ribs dry and she loved them as well. The sides are good, especially the beans. I'm not a cole slaw fan so was not impressed with the slaw. The chili was also excellent. The place has 2 dining areas and 2 bars, one with music. We ate in the bar with entertainment and loved it. I have been here at least 5 times... more

Make up a great day! We visited with Elvis and received the recommendation to eat at the Bules City Cafe. It was very nice. We enjoyed the fried pickles very much. The rest of the food was great too.

This was our first stop when we rolled into Memphis in the middle of the night. We read that this was Bill Clinton's favorite place to eat in Memphis. We were greeted with a friendly, "Sit anywhere you want!" and were immediately happy with the authentic "dirty South" atmosphere. At first we were dismayed by the limited menu, but we came to discover over the weekend that this is common in... more
