The flavors of New Mexico have landed in Mesa, celebrating the state's signature Hatch chiles. While a few dishes (carne adovada and red chile posole) pack some serious heat, milder mouths will do just fine with tenderloin rellenos, pork tamales or a beguiling chorizo-stuffed chicken in amaretto-mushroom sauce.

The manzana sopapilla, stuffed with baked apples, cinnamon and pecans and served with vanilla bean gelatoa is a mind-boggling steal at $3.95.

In Short This casually upscale restaurant features a small but thoughtful wine list, sophisticated menu and affordable cuisine. The menu is also balanced with Southwestern-style Blue Plate specials and pasta plates listed on the right, and New Mexican offerings, called adobe plates, listed on the left. Don't miss the Tucumcari tenderloin topped with jalapeno sauce and served with... more

Mesa got a lot closer to achieving big city status when this sharp New Mexican-Southwestern venue came to town. Never mind that the outside still vaguely resembles a fast-food operation. Inside, the walls have been painted a cozy brown, which nicely offsets the unusual Balinese screens and furniture pieces that give the room a slightly exotic feeling. But it’s the adventurous menu that wins the... more

Wedged between a Taco Bell and an aging bowling alley, this restaurant looks like just the sort of place you should drive right past. Don't! Despite appearances, this New Mexican-style restaurant serves deliciously creative Southwestern fare at very economical prices. To get an idea of what the food here is all about, order the Tres Santa Fe plate with tenderloin burrito, a shrimp enchilada,... more

I have been going to Blue Adobe for many years. The menu and changed and improved throughout that time. I love the salads and the Stacked enchiladas are my favorite. I have not had a good if not excellent meal and my out of town guest always like it.

Surprise--the pizza here is unique and delicious. Don't miss the pasta with pine nuts which is a favorite of mine. This place is great in that they will adjust the heat of their dishes to your taste. The service is first rate.

This is one of my favorite local spots. Much of the food has a real bite to it so watch out, but not all of it! Servings are very generous. Try the crab cake appetizer for a main dish. It's wonderful. You'll be surprised to find one of the Valley's best creme brulees here. The staff is fantastic and the service excellent. Perfect place to go before the show at the Mesa Arts Center. Don't miss it!
