Editorial reviews from the web (3)

"Worthy of the proximity" to the French embassay is this "authentically" Gallic haven in Upper Georgetown dishing out "expensive" but "high-quality" bistro "classics" "à la the 1950s", including offal; "use your inside voice" when placing orders with the "knowledgeable" servers because it can be "loud" in the "charmingly" "rustic" dining room, though "the upstairs wine bar is a quiet oasis."

This cheerful French restaurant has won the hearts of those lucky enough to live in the neighborhood. If you want to make sure that you can occupy one of the 40-odd seats, it's best to call in advance, for the place fills up fast with faithful regulars. Chef-owner Bruno Fortin has constructed a menu that is short, direct and depends on seasonal fruits and vegetables. He prepares such...

Bistrot Lepic is the real thing -- a charming French restaurant that seems plucked right off a Parisian side street. The seasonal menu offers such entrees as grilled rainbow trout with tomatoes, capers, and olives; beef...

Good French dining

My wife and I have eaten there several times. Always in the upstairs wine bar area, because we have no reservations. Food is consistently good. Any "French" dish is a good bet, but I also enjoyed the risotto with quail.

I just had another great business lunch at Bistro Lepic last week with a Washington VIP. It was elegant, intimate and bright. The food is excellent especially the rack of lamb. The service is very personal and discreet. They offer jazz evenings during the week....

From the beginning, when Bistrot Lepic opened its doors in April 1995, the restaurant received a hearty welcome to the neighborhood. Because of Bruno Fortin's simple yet excellent cooking, the little bistro began to build its reputation not only in the neighborhood but throughout the city.
