This is one of the most important restaurants in American culinary history. At the Big Texan, you can order a 72-ounce (yes, 4.5 pounds) steak, and if you eat the entire thing, it's FREE. Plus, your name gets added to the list on the wall of other perfect people like yourself who have accomplished the same feat. The restaurant is Western-themed and there is a big platform up top where the 72-ounce steak eaters. Unfortunately, I wimped out on this and ordered a slightly less manly 16 once ribeye, but it was one of the most amazing steaks I've ever had. Everyone needs to check this place out, and I mean right now!!!

I've eaten for breakfast here twice. first time great waitress knows her stuff. the biscuit and gravy very good. the rest average. the restaurant itself is fantastic fun to take pictures look around gift shop

If you're visiting Amarillo or even driving through Amarillo, don't miss the Big Texan. It's fun to watch someone try to eat a 72 ounce steak dinner with all the fixings in less than an hour to try to get it for free. There's also lots of great Texas decor. It's definitely a memorable place to eat - and the food's good, too. The kid meals are served in a cowboy hat, which is fun for the kids.... more

Can you eat a 72 ounce steak with all the fixin's by yourself? If you can it's free. This place has a great country atmosphere. The steaks are good. Really everything is good. It's a big place and can accomodate large parties. Just look for the big cowboy standing outside.
