This was my first climbing gym, so I didn't realize how much I appreciated it until I checked out a different gym. The belay test here is the most detailed I've seen, so you know they're safe. Who knew. This was my first experience at a climbing gym and it was great. Come with a group - preferably an even number and get trained in tying a simple knot and belaying and you're off to tackle the tons of routes. If you're not afraid of heights its really interesting to see what you can do, especially if you do other physical sports or activities nothing like it. Not hot or smelly at all.

Ironworks has tons of routes and bouldering problems, along with workout equipment, weights, yoga, pilates, spinning, and more! I'm mostly a climber so I'm going to speak to that. Their climbing problems are often good and it's a wide open space. And on the hot days in the Bay Area, this place somehow stays cool which is a godsend.

PROS: good temperature, good climbing
