With Linda Japngie, its fourth chef in just eighteen months, in situ, the quirky little bistro Barmarché picks up the quickening pulse of this neighborhood just east of Soho. This patchwork of country furniture, whimsical art, and plastic-cube-enclosed crystal chandeliers took a while to settle down. But Japngie (whose food I praised at the late Jimmy's Uptown and Downtown) manages somehow to... more

An American bistro serving classic favorites and brunch all day.

The former Café Lebowitz space has been reborn as an American bistro, serving comfort food favorites. The atmosphere is accented with trendy touches like chandeliers encased in plexy glass boxes and intriguing black-and-white vintage-y pictures. Even if you don't have to go, peek into one of the bathrooms in back because there's something pleasantly tranquil about the soft blue hues behind... more

My husband & met a friend at Barmarche last night. We had an 8:30 reservation and were seated promptly. The bartender made us some great drinks: nigroni & Vesper. The atmosphere was cosy and hip. Service was great too. The food was delicious. The rissoto was delicious. My husband had the scallops. Great dish, but not substantial. I'd suggest ordering an app if you choose the scallops as... more

Been here a couple times and each time, I was satisfied. The menu is creative and I felt like I wanted to try almost all of it. The fish tacquitos and shredded pork were tasty. The place is cozy and its easy to carry a conversation at the table. Then again, I have not been there during their busy dinner rush. I would definitely go back.

Cozy and romantic.... by Tessa B. at InsiderPages

Barmarche is a perfect date spot. It is a cozy, romantic restaurant with wonderful cocktails and delicious food. There's sometimes a wait, so try to make a reservation in advance. My favorite drink is a champagne cocktail with fresh blueberries and ginger in it--yum! There's a nice selection of seafood and meat options. Try the bacon wrapped dates, the raw oysters, and the steamed mussels.
