Editorial reviews from the web (3)

The "British invasion" comes to Brooklyn via these kinda "divey" pub-food places decorated with "'80s punk memorabilia" and specializing in "cardiologist-disapproved" items like "killer fish 'n' chips" and "seriously deep-fried" candy bars; "homesick Brits" dub it "bloody wonderful."

In an international city, every ethnicity is eventually represented, for good or for bad: luckily, the stereotypical perception of English food is woe-fully misgiven. Fried fish and "chips"—our American French fries (sorry, Freedom fries)—as well as the requisite beer selection and, of course, football games on the telly. That is, soccer matches on the television.

Bringing British fare to Brooklyn Heights with a generous side of chips.

The Scene
The casual pub atmosphere translates well for the neighborhood crowd--young, old, families, singles--that packs the restaurant's wooden tables. A traditional bar, British band...

Chill place to grab lunch at the bar. Was my go to place for lunch when I used to work across the street at LICH.Favorite thing here was the shepherds pie, with fries replacing the green peas. A...

One of the best places I've been to to just grab some beers and eat fried food. So much fried food that you might in fact feel sick afterwards (exercise some self control). If you're unsure about...

My husband and I came here in need of some good English Fish & Chips and that's what we got! It was a taste of home. It is a casual place, where you can get comfortable and enjoy your meal....

I must say the curried lentil soup was really good and such a surprise. If I ever return it would be for just that. The chips were good, too. But the fried fish was way too bready and the...

The Atlantic ChipShop is a traditional English pub in Brooklyn, NY. Come experience the best of England in our fun pub atmosphere today!

The Brooklyn Heights branch may not be the original (that honor belongs to its Park Slope cousin), but it bests the original in gastro-pub ambiance and authentic vibe. The waitstaff can be a tad slow, but then again, you're practically on the Queen's land when you walk through the front door, so what else can you expect? Thank goodness for the food—standard British/Irish pub dishes and chippie...

This bar, located on Atlantic Avenue between Henry and Clinton Streets, is a British oasis. Patrons can stop by for a menu featuring battered cod and chips, battered haddock and chips, steak and kidney pie, shepherd's pies and a host of draught English, Irish and Scottish ales, stouts and lagers. Live Rugby matches are regularly featured on the bar's TV and free delivery is available.

The Extras: Try the original Chip Shop in Park Slope.

Know Before You Go: Health nuts can get their fish baked in wine and will be glad to know the house salad, topped with tomatoes, peppers and onion, is taken just as seriously as the fish.

What to Drink: A beer, of course. The hearty flavors of Guinness, Belhaven, Old Speckled Hen or Fuller's ESB help to wash down the heaps of food on your plate.
