The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco is one of the largest museums in the Western world devoted exclusively to Asian art. But we are more than just an art museum—we are your ticket to Asia. Here, travel through 6,000 years of history, trek across seven major regions, and sample the cultures of numerous countries.
We're one of the largest museums in the Western world devoted exclusively to Asian art. In other words, you can have a lot of fun and learn a ton of cool stuff.
Vision With Asia as our lens and art as our cornerstone, we spark connections across cultures and through time, igniting cur...iosity, conversation, and creativity. Asia is not one place. The ideas and ideals that we call Asian are countless and diverse. Some of the works we display pre-date written history. Others were recently created. Many have connections to works from other continents and...
I have been coming to the Asian Art Museum on a regular basis since moving to San Francisco four years ago. It's definitely become one of my favorite art spaces in the city. Their regular collection is strong, and has a lot of fascinating pieces to see. The space, even though appropriated from an old building, is well lit and airy, and the collection itself is curated well, and there is a good flow to the whole building.

The order reflects a major theme, the spread of Buddhism across the Asian world. But you don’t need to know that to enjoy seeing the art. Look for the sinuous temple carvings in the India and Southeast Asia collections, and...
I adore this place; everything time I visited, I am reminded how much I love this place. The collection is outstanding and the architecture of the museum itself is a sight of its own.
This gave a great overview of various customs and religions with the wonderful art displays. I have not seen a similar museum but we enjoyed it a great deal.
