Asian Art Museum Of Sf

Great place to spend time!

Review Rating
I have been coming to the Asian Art Museum on a regular basis since moving to San Francisco four years ago. It's definitely become one of my favorite art spaces in the city. Their regular collection is strong, and has a lot of fascinating pieces to see. The space, even though appropriated from an old building, is well lit and airy, and the collection itself is curated well, and there is a good flow to the whole building.

I am a member, (which can be split with someone, so you'd share the cost and both get in free, whenever) and I find myself coming back for the revolving exhibitions, and the regular collection.

Friday seems to be the field-trip day... so if you don't like kids and art at the same time, avoid Friday mornings.

This is not a children's museum in the standard sense of the phrase; the exhibits are neither interactive nor geared to small people. But the beautifully renovated space is well worth a visit, especially the first Saturday of every month when the museum hosts a Family Program, which includes studio and gallery activities. And on Sundays at 1pm a storyteller brings to life a selected art object... more

The Korean Art Gallery is my favorite section of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Korean art is just so beautiful. Don't forget to also check out the Chinese,Vietnamese,Thai,Cambodian,Indonesian and Malaysian art sections too.

Best way to tour the museum is to start from the top floor and make your way back down.

Best way to tour the museum is to start from the top floor and make your way back down. That way, as soon as you're finished with the culture thing, you immediately get a power-up. Do not skip the cafeteria either, it's MUY EXCELLENTE! If you're craving something savory, order their paninis.

I drive by the Asian Art Museum all of the time but never really gave it a second thought. Then I heard about this new exhibit for the Marvel of Manga and immediately gathered a group of friends to check it out. It was awesome!! We are going to enter their contest for our anime drawings
