Apple Pan

Quality IS Forever

Review Rating
I was taking my niece Sophia to her first sewing class today and we were running a little early. So, it was a perfect opportunity to catch The Apple Pan bright and early just as they were opening and before the usual crowd starts to form.

We shared a Steakburger with cheese and some fries, making sure to save room for a warm slice of pie.

They really have their system down to a science. The burger was cooked to perfection with all the fixins on a nice super soft bun. D.Licious!

The apple pie was served absolutely perfect! Warm, Fresh, and Delicious.

This could be the start of a Sunday ritual for Sophia and I.

It really is great, IMHO

I've been eating at the Apple Pan for 25 years. When their menu boasts "Quality Forever", they ain't kidding. Burgers are perfectly cooked on the griddle, the fries are to perfection (and to order, they will do them extra crispy, if you like). The pie is hit or miss for me, but I do like a slice of the apple pie with their classic coffee shop coffee, however. And personally, I think the BBQ sauce on the hickory burger is great--tangy and sweet.

Recently honored by frequent patron Mayor Riordan for their 50th anniversary, this long-standing and somewhat infamous hamburger and sandwich joint still offers counter seating (only!) with red swivel chairs, no air conditioning, and a hunk of homemade apple pie for under $3. And if you think that`s not appealing, you`re at odds with the crowds of all ages that flock there for lunch, dinner... more

Feeling nostalgic for a time gone by (and the low prices that went with it)? Head to this white clapboard shack, opened in 1947 and now surrounded by boxy storefronts that seem about to swallow it whole. Inside, wood paneling and red-and-white plaid wallpaper flank 26 counter seats, for which devoted fans are happy to wait. The rewards are ample, including steak burgers piled high with fixings... more

There are no tables, just a U-shape counter, at this classic American diner and hugely popular L.A. landmark. Open since 1947, this diner is famous for its juicy burgers, delicious pies, speedy service, and authentic frills-free atmosphere.

The Scene Imagine Dorothy's Kansas house dropped in front of the Westside Pavilion: white clapboards, plaid wallpaper and wood paneling. Suit-and-tie types, frat boys and families alike jostle for the 20 counter seats. The Food The Westside's best burger, doled out in a paper wrapper, draws the carnivorous masses from all over town. The signature steak burger is a... more

Los Angeles' most famous fast food landmark. Sorry, world's oldest McDonald's is in Downey. Possibly as old as the men serving hickory burgers or slightly different Apple Pan burgers to the gathering of Westside high schoolers, families, and faraway fans at the u-shaped countertop. Small wooden house bears no frills but a wait. True blue classic diner from '47 with few choices but thick, savory... more

The two-story condos available here are very nice, but may be soon overshadowed by those in Averill's Lodge at Whitefish Lake, the long-in-progress four-season luxury resort at the same address. The bold new building opened for New Year's 2006 after several years of delays. The existing resort condos include a very large tiled kitchen, a dining area, a deck overlooking Whitefish Lake and the... more

We went there today for the first time. When we sat down, we could see the counter man was in machine mode. Fast, fast, fast. Don't ask stupid questions. Give me your order. I had a tuna sandwich with swiss cheese on toasted rye. Came out just as I asked and delicious. My wife ate an egg salad sandwich and she loved it. In the meantime, people are starting to congregate around you... more

Something is dreadfully wrong with the rating of this restaurant. I have been meaning to get a burger here for years. I have always been thwarted by the lack of parking or crowd at the counter. I finally made it here yesterday with my wife and we were extremely unimpressed. The burger was really small! It costs $6.50(ala carte)for a burger the size of a McDonalds regular hamburger with lots of... more
