Angelo's atmosphere, that of an inviting hunting lodge filled with good friends, has received nearly as much mention as their world-famous barbecue. Sawdust covered floors until 1979 when the Health Department made a clean sweep of that timeworn barbecue restaurant tradition. However, familiar beasts from bears to buffalos and stringers of bass, (thanks to the hunting and fishing skills of the...

The scent of wood smoke fills your nostrils as soon as you open the car door. Stride past hickory woodpiles as large as livestock pens to enter the Western saloon-style eating hall. Grab a longneck or a cold soda from the drink coolers and add a bag of chips or Fritos from the convenience store racks before bellying up to the counter and naming your meat; sliced or chopped, sandwich or plate...
In business since 1958, Angelo's has managed to become an institution (you can even find its dry rub in supermarkets now) without losing the respect of the notoriously picky Texas BBQ cognoscenti. The barnlike establishment remains no-fuss and a lot of muss. A couple of great big smoky rooms crammed with the stuffed heads of big-horned ungulates find faithful customers queuing up for the...
In Short
Since 1958, Angelo's has been throwing down top-notch barbecue in ""Cowtown."" The rustic, hunting lodge environment includes the bear and buffalo busts along with stringers of...
Fort Worth's classic Texas barbecue joint, in this spot since 1958, is the real deal, a Cowtown legend. A few blocks north of the Cultural District and west of downtown, it looks kind of like a large Texas Jaycees convention hall, with wood paneling, mounted deer and buffalo heads, metal ceiling fans, and Formica tables. It's nearly as full of flavor as the hickory-smoked barbecue. The sliced...
Wowzeers, my husband and I think the best BBQ is when you do not need to use the BBQ sauce on the brisket or ribs...this was one the best we have had! The prices were great and the service was friendly and helpful. The beans were regular ranch style and to use the only thing that way not great. The...
I really expected more from this Texas BBQ as I had heard good things. I purchased the rib dinner and was not that impressed. the side of baked beans was less than what I had expected and the ribs were just average. I have had better coleslaw in many places. The staff was helpful and friendly and the restaurant itself...
Colleague of mine took me to Angelo's for lunch as it is one of his favorites of Fort Worth. Glad he did. Excellent Bar-b-que. I had the smoked turkey with potato salad and pinto beans. Good portions, priced right, friendly staff. Definitely a business lunch option with local ties. Remember, you will smell like BBQ when you leave!
When we walked in the door, we were smacked in the face with deliciousness smokey flavors. Driving up, you might be thinking "oh lord, where am I and what am I doing" but let your mind wander to great BBQ beef sandwiches. It's in kind of an industrial area and the place has some serious character both inside and out....
In the nearly 30 years I've lived in Fort Worth, I've heard countless times about the great barbecue at Angelo's.
Sorry to say, it really isn't that great. It's not that it's terrible; it's just okay. The barbecue is bland and dry (I had pulled pork that tasted like exactly nothing; my friend had sliced brisket that was equally flavorless)...

Fort Worth favorite for barbecue and beer.
Lunch, Barbecue: This Fort Worth landmark, located just a few minutes west of Downtown, cooks up a mean brisket and is also known for its pork ribs and chicken with all the trimmings. The rustic atmosphere comes complete with mounted hunting trophies and dark wood paneling, and you can feel comfortable sporting casual duds. Cold beer is served in frosty mugs — the perfect accompaniment to smoky...
One of the city's most popular barbecue joints actually began as a beer hall in 1958. The original owner, Angelo George, added the meat as a sideline to encourage customers to drink more. Now the former beer hall has been named one of the best places for barbeque by the Zagat Weekly and Texas Monthly. The walls are graced with typically Texan taxidermy (moose, buffalo and deer). Entrees include...
