You can find great food in New Orleans, and, of course, hot jazz, but only a few of the Big Easy's jazz clubs serve food. Palm Court offers Creole cooking all to the beat of some of the city’s most innovative jazz musicians. Oysters bordelaise is paired with a green peppercorn sauce, while the crawfish Nantua is theatrically flambéed tableside in a brandy cream sauce. Respectable Chicken...

This friendly, slightly worn-looking cafe is frequented mostly by tourists and devout fans, local and otherwise, of classic Dixieland jazz. The upscale atmosphere, including...
Great little bar with a second floor patio that wraps all the way around the building. Great views of the action, people-watching, etc. A TV at every second table, great for catching the game. Beer pitcher prices were reasonable but they ran out of draft beer at 4pm on Sunday. Their special that day, the Crawfish Boil, was excellent... a...
We strolled into American Sports Saloon early in the day on Lundi Gras. We sidled up to the bar and Coco O'Reilly made us an absolutely fabulous Bloody Mary with her secret recipe. (We may have stayed for more than one!)
They had a sign outside saying they had Crayfish--a must to try if you are coming to New Orleans. I have to say they did an excellent job--but way too much for one person--easily would feed two possible three people so keep that in mind if you decide to order them.
We were in New Orleans from December 30th through January 3rd and we were looking for a good sports bar to watch some bowl games. Popped into the American Sports Saloon and was pleasantly surprised. Lots of TVs, including some tables with their own flat screens. The staff there was very nice. In fact, we went back two more times....
We wanted to watch our beloved MS State Bulldogs in the Belk Bowl yesterday. Thought we would try Walk-On's which was rated the best by ESPN. Got there and management would not let us hear the game. Told us they only put on local teams. We said it is a Bowl Game! Called American Sports Saloon and asked them if...

When to Go: You won't see musicians dropping by after finishing up their other gigs; the action here stops around 11pm, far too early for serious hep cats.
Know Before You Go: Diners are charged a small "music fee," while those who opt to stand at the bar and enjoy the same show pay nothing more than the cost of their drinks.
