Alibi Room

Upscale Hipster Bar

Review Rating
Have you been to Beechwood or the Brig in Venice? Somebody took Beechwood's DNA and cloned it into the Alibi Room (it's actually the same owners). The Alibi used to be a total c@!%!y dive bar (they didn't serve Maker's Mark there, for Chrissake) but now it's an upscale bar with expensive ($10) drinks and fancily-dressed young'uns, except for the hipsters in t-shirts and track jackets who are Making a Cultural Statement (or perhaps Rebelling Against The Man) by being inappropriately dressed. Worth checking out if you like this type of bar - I do, so I go here.

Meet your favorite bar in Culver City: Alibi Room carries a fun, eclectic selection of international beers, including Japanese export Hitachino Nest $9 and Czech brew Czechvar on tap. The grub is of the hot, fried and so-salty-youll-need-to-order-another-brewski variety, from poutine fries to the Philly cheesesteak, which comes piping hot, oozing with your choice of either American cheese or... more

This discreet and dimly lit dive bar is such a favorite of the locals, that any newcomer’s entrance won’t go unnoticed. Neighborhood cronies huddle around the miniature pool table, feed the jukebox full of oldies or duck under the bar adorned with Christmas lights and retro, revolving horse Budweiser lamps. Perfect for beer- drinking barflies who are exhausted by the trendy, crowded joints in... more

You have the choice of East Coast- or West Coast-style when if you order a Philly cheese steak. East means you get authentic Cheez Whiz; go west and it's white cheddar.

Grab one of the briskly modern gray velvet chairs and cozy up to the fireplace--it's a little removed from the fray and more intimate. There's a patio for smokers.

The lounge offers Czechwar beer on tap, and is one of the only bars in California to serve the Czech favorite.

Editorial Reviews from the web

Former dive bar has been reincarnated into an unpretentious cocktail lounge that sits at the corner of chic and industrial.

In Short The look is minimalist--soft gray walls and natural wood--but the vibe is fast and smoove, much like the electronica wafting from the owner's iPod. The bar itself is an off-center triangular shape, with hundreds of top-shelf vodka bottles lingering above. A cozy fireplace spawns more intimate conversations among the 20- to 40-somethings disproportionately dressed in ... more

I thought the girl bartenders were nice looking enough but were more interested in dancing with each other and moving in circles around the bar doing a lot of busy work than watching for all the customers trying to get their attention to buy drinks at the bar ( as there were a lot of us trying to spend our money.) I thought this would be a good neighborhood spot to come to often, but I can't... more

HORRIBLE BARTENDERS

A group of us went to the Alibi on Friday night. The bartender served 1 of us and ignored the other 3 girls. She was NOT busy at all. We finally got the other bartenders attention and told her that the rest of us want a drink as well. I ordered a Corona and she told me that they didn't have Corona and probably wouldn't have anything that I would like. She was SO rude. So I asked for a bar menu.... more
