In Short Vibrant red- and orange-toned walls and wood-framed windows add to the modern ambiance of this multi-level restaurant. Take a seat on the terrace--featuring the largest amount of seating on the Riverwalk--and enjoy the beautiful water view. For lunch or dinner, sample menu selections including beef short ribs and duck or Mexican favorites with a modern twist. For dessert,... more

Modern Tex-Mex is the sub-moniker of this giddily colored, multi-level, madcap-modern extravaganza of a restaurant. Salmon nachos with black beans and dill crema are among the appetizers that work as a retread of a classic, and crepas de huitlacoche pit the inky corn fungus against pancakes filled with corn and poblano chilies. In fact, both the food and the service exceed... more

The entrees were strictly OK, but the chicken tortilla soup was so bad i couldn't take more than a bite. the "tomato based broth" actually tasted like canned tomato paste. Big disappointment.

Pros

+ right on the riverwalk, friendly staff.

Not your average riverwalk tex-mex!

I've enjoyed visiting Acenar many times since it opened, both for lunch and dinner; in small and large groups. Service has been excellent, and prices quite reasonable for a nice riverwalk dining experience. The food is great too, of course- Alambres and fried oysters for appetizers, mole enchiladas and carnitas for entrees, and any of the desserts. Try the strawberry margarita and the... more

Coming from a native San Antonian, I can tell you that Acenar is a good place to eat when visiting, but mostly because of location and reasonable prices. Its location on the Riverwalk is great, and just at the edge of the commercial stretch, so there is actually plenty of good, spacious outdoor seating while still within walking distance of most downtown hotels. If you want authentic Mexican or... more
