The 1857 lighthouse was designed by George Meade, stands 171 feet tall, and is the oldest man-made tourist attraction on the Jersey shore. You can tour the adjacent lightkeeper's house and climb the 228 steps to the top for a great view of Atlantic City. In summer, kids are invited to Wacky Wednesday programs, moonlight climbs, and even sleepover adventures.

Because of shifting sands over time...this lighthouse is now a couple miles inland. Because of that, it is no longer a working lighthouse. It still has one of the amazing french lenses that can magnify light REALLY far. Not much to do and wouldn't really recommend it.
Visited this lighthouse last summer and was deeply distressed at it's condition. If they could move Hatteras to a better location, why not this lighthouse.
While visiting nearby Historic Smithville, my wife and I went into Atlantic City to the Absecon Lighthouse. It is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey and you have to traverse 228 stops to get to the top. The view of the city was very nice.
We had some extra time and stopped here. Worth a trip to climb up for the price. good info to explain the history and was surprised to see that George Meade helped in overseeing the building of this lighthouse, same guy who led the Union Army in Gettysburg.
