101 Coffee Shop

Great late night dining

Review Rating
This place is great to go to with a group. They won't write up separate checks, but they will tally up individual orders on one check so it's easier for people to pay their share. The food is quite good for classic American style coffee shop food. There's a lot of healthy options on the menu too.

Our local diner spot, this place makes some of the best fries in LA, sort of wide cut regular fries and thin shoestring sweet potato fries together. Decent vegetarian menu, including a portabella mushroom burger that's pretty good. But nothing here is really all that lowfat, so if you're on a diet order carefully. Really good smoothies: pick your base juice and then your fruits. There's a selection of old skool candies at the register up front. Parking in the lot to the side, or around the corner; follow the 'hotel parking' signs. For a star-gazing treat, check out the walls on the corridor past the lobby leading to the parking lot: there are neat things like signed uncashed checks from celebs and more.

Housed on the first floor of a Best Western hotel, the 101 Coffee Shop (named for the adjacent freeway) is a favorite stop after a night out in Hollywood (or a hangover meal the next day). The sweet potato fries are the best way to top off a night of boozing. Other notable dishes include the breakfast burrito, turkey burger and chorizo and eggs. The décor isn’t any different from a basic diner,... more

This trendy spot has rock walls, funky-colored tiles, comfy booths and light fixtures that seem right out of the 1950s.

Friendly if sometimes too-cool-for-school servers sling hash with a smile or was that a smirk? at the 101 Coffee Shop. Mussed-up diners take it all in stride: Dude, it's all good, man. The non-greasy greasy-spoon experience is helped along by... more

Street parking can be tough on Franklin: Definitely take advantage of the motel's free underground lot.

In Short With stylish early-1960s decor, red-and-brown booths and a jukebox filled with everything from the Allman Brothers to Marvin Gaye, the 101 has an ambience that appeals to both neighborhood hepcats and motel guests. A large menu features the usual diner staples--burgers, grilled cheese, pancakes and eggs--along with twists such as fried-green tomato salad and "No Huevos"... more

A retro coffee shop right out of the early '60s with rock walls, funky colored tiles, comfy booths, and cool light fixtures, all pulled together nicely in a hip yet subdued fashion. Count on tasty grinds until 3am (try the breakfast burritos).

I have always loved this place for a good late night bite, and though it is usually pretty packed on weekend nights, I love thsi place. I really hate diners that try to look all 50s. Boring. You know it's no good when Denny's starts remodeling trying to look like a 50s diner. But this place is so 60s/70s it's hilarious. The rock wall reminds me of my grandma's house and how she refused to... more

Three times the charm, as they say.
Well, each of the three times I have been here I have been an horrible experience with the waiting staff.
Let me say , the busboys were working there a@!%s off, even pointing out to the servers they had customers.
Maybe the charm of this place is to the late night rockers and the history on the wall.
If you're on your way home from a late night of partying,... more

I have to say I've been to a lot of "diners"/coffee shops around the country and I was really impressed by their cup of coffee, just a cup of black.

Service was attentive but they had that kind of attitude "i'm here to help you, but not really serve you", not very upbeat.

I hope I get to eat something next time.
