Help us make it rightOriginal Mexican restaurant on the River Walk
One of the original Mexican restaurants on the San Antonio River Walk, Rio Rio Cantina is locally famous and famously local. This downtown restaurant will indulge your cravings with a fiesta of flavors. Rio’s fresh Tex-Mex recipes, homemade flour tortillas and handcrafted margaritas bring the tastes of Mexico to your table.
Mexican food so good, they named it twice. Located in the heart of the city's River Walk, Rio Rio Cantina offers tried-and-true Tex-Mex dining, both indoors and overlooking the river. Do not miss favorites such as Green Enchiladas, beef and Chicken Fajitas and enormous Quesadillas. The bartenders also make a darn good margarita. This is a colorful, fun and noisy place where kids blend in well...
Rio Rio's Cal-Mex menu is an anomaly in the sentimental home of Tex-Mex cuisine, and its tongue-in-cheek interior tweaks traditional Mexican motifs, too. The burrito, for example, was never a Tex-Mex standard---especially not when it arrives busting at the seams with rice, spinach, beans, cheese and mild chilies. Chiles rellenos are prepared with poblanos in these parts, pardner, but Rio Rio...
The Scene
At the Riverwalk's Rio Rio Cantina, diners have almost as many options of places to sit as they do meals from which to choose. The cantina has a couple of indoor dining...
Sat outside upstairs to keep out of the fray of the traffic of River Walk. Good food, but higher prices as is many of the restaurants that overlook the River Walk. The prickly pear margarita has a strange after taste. I would not recommend that drink, however the El Presidente margarita is good. Pretty good food if you want to...
The queso was cold and horrible. The chips were right out of a Tostitos bag. The salsa was good. The carnitas tacos were ok. The atmosphere is lovely. But the fajitas were terrible. Drinks were terrible and their service was the worst of it all. She just disappeared and reappears later after a manager had to wait on us. He...
Ordered one appetizer and one entre. It was great and the amount was unblievable. We took some home and used the left overs for 2 other meals. If you are not extremely hungry, you may want to share. All good.
Food is ok. Waited for almost an hour for our food. Conveniently located by the riverwalk. Not impressed. Don't recommend it. Food was ok.
They catered the TX Safety Conference and the food was exceptional. They were well staffed for our large group. They kept the drinks filled/replaced to everyone's preference. We were able to sit in the sunshine on the Riverwalk which was very pleasant & enjoyable.

Deep in the heart of Texas is a little bit of Old Mexico. Any lunchtime or dinner, waiters heft trays piled high with Corona Beer-Basted Camarones Yucateco, and hustle to your table with platters heaped with Fajitas al Carbon, still smokin’ from the grill. At the River level, the “tongue-in-chic” Naked Iguana Lounge can keep a small crowd very happy indeed, serving a huge selection of signature...
